Look Outside
Look Outside, see the trees Watch the flowers in the breeze Things won't be like this in a year or two If polluting is all we do Seize the night Seize the day Things won't always be this way Thousands of people are dying In the night you hear children crying Let's stop the war Our people are sore The world can't help itself Who cares about your wealth Help me to help you Show the world what you can do. Why am I including this poem? I included this poem because this poem is about nature and the environment and this topic / poem could really relate to us. |
Analyzing "Look Outside"
"Look Outside" is a poem written by Josie Graveling. It is about nature and environment. This poem ( the first 3 stanzas) was written to tell us nature’s beauty and amazing wonders no matter where you are on the Earth but from the 4th stanza, the writer is trying to tell us what happened after humans polluted it. The writer is also commenting on what humans done to the nature and the environment was wrong. The writer also tries to encourage people to standout and make an afford to save our planet. I believe that the main purpose of the poem, to try and get people to realize that if we keep polluting nature and don’t stop and stand up for it, the Earth will soon be in a lot of trouble. This is a conventional poem that follows a pattern, it has a rhyming scheme at the end of each sentence, for example, ....trees....breeze, .....two......do etc. The rhyming scheme in this poem help readers to read the poem smoothly. This poem does not have the same meter. In this poem, the writer used quite a lot of language techniques too. One of the language techniques used was imagery, the writer used imagery to give readers a vision of what the poem is about. The first 3 stanzas, she is trying to give readers a mental vision of nature, trees and flowers blowing in a breeze. Using imagery, the reader could easily understand what she is trying to communicating. The writer used repetition, for example, seize the night, seize the day and symbolism, " Let's stop the war". In this poem, there is actually no war but she used war to symbolise the pollution in earth. This poem uses everyday ordinary words, to make us easy to understand what she is trying to communicate. |
