The Dead Crow
He saw a dead crow in a drain near the post office. He saw an old man gasping for air and a baby barely able to breathe in a crowded morning clinic. This land is so rich. Why should we suffer like this? I want clean air for my grandchildren. I want the damned fools to leave the forest alone. I want the trees to grow, the rivers run free, and the earth covered with grass. Let the politicians plan how we may live with dignity, now and always. Why am I including this poem? I included this poem because this situation is happening in this world right now. I think this poem is really easy to understand and the writer used a lot of language techniques too. |
Analyzing " The Dead Crow"
" The Dead Crow" was written by Samad Said. This poem is basically on the nature and its resources. It is also about how human activities has caused the earth to deteriorate due to pollution. The writer wrote this poem to tell us how the environment had changes and how the environment is now. The writer is trying to communicate that even a crow could not survive in this polluted environment. He is commenting on how bad the environment is. I think the writer is a bit disappointing and stress while writing this poem because the earth is now polluted. This poem is a non conventional poem that does not follow a pattern and it does not have any rhyming scheme in it. The meter of each sentence are not quite similar to each other. This is a nonet ( 9 lines poem ) The writer used symbolism in his poem, for example the dead crow is the serious effect of pollution. Another literary device used was Imagery - vivid image of an old man and a baby having trouble breathing for readers to imagine the situation. In this poem, there was a bit of repetition for example on the second paragraph, At the start of three sentences, it started with " I want". Even though this is a non conventional poem, it does not have rhyming scheme, but the sound still flows while reading because most of the sentences have almost the same meter. Even though this poem used ordinary everyday words not high level vocabulary, but this poem is still very meaningful and it is still very interesting. |
