Racism
Of human ignorance I am almost in despair For racism is around me everywhere But like they say sheer ignorance is bliss Just like Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Some people carry their honour in a flag And of their Nationality they brag They feel superior and they differentiate And against those who are different they discriminate. So many people still judged by their race For such there never ought to be a place 'A fair go' those untruthful words I do recall There is no such a thing as a 'fair go for all'. Though we live in a so called democracy Of racism we never will be free They judge you by where you come from and the colour of your skin For many equality and respect seems impossible to win. It's been awhile since the days of Martin Luther King His name to it has a familiar ring If against racism he did not choose to strive Today the great man he would be alive. So many holding the reins of power not spiritually aware And racism is around me everywhere And racism only leads to division and war Just goes to show how ignorant some are. Why am I including this poem? I included this poem because I think this situation happened a lot especially in a country with different race. The writer used high level vocabulary which really could improved my vocabulary and he also used a lot of language techniques. |
Analyzing "Racism"
Racism is a poem written by Francis Duggan. It is about racism. The purpose of Francis Duggan writing this poem is to stop racism from happening and to tell us how it feels to be the one that got bullied by others just because of they have a different race and different nationalities across the world. I think Francis was one of the victims of racism and he strongly against racism. In this poem, he was telling a story of himself. He is telling us that fair go for all. The social comment the poem is making about society is that racism affects a lot of people from a wide range of nationalities, and racism is something that needs to be stopped. I think he is apologetic, sad and aggravated while writing this poem. This poem is a conventional poem which follows a pattern because it has a rhyming scheme at the end of each sentence. The poem language techniques like Imagery, " So many people still judged by their race for such there ought to be a place". I can imagine being judged based on their skin colour, and not their intelligence. Another language technique used in this poem was Ode, for example ' fair go for all'. It has a really powerful tone when he was writing this line in the poem, he wanted to het his point across to the readers. This poem used metaphor and symbolism too because the writer compares racism with things in his life and he made the flag symbolized a country and its pride. The rhyming scheme in the poem made the sound flow, so that readers can read the poem fluently. This poem is a really good poem because the writer had used high level vocabulary. |
