The Fog
Slowly the fog, Hunched shouldered with a grey face, Arms wide, advances, Finger – tips touching the way. Past the dark house And dark gardens of roses, Up the short street from the habour, Slowly the fog, Seeking, Seeking, Arms Wide, shoulder hunched, Searching, searching, Out through the streets to the field, Slowly the fog, A blind man hunting the moon. Why am I including this poem?
The reasons I include this poem is because personally I think this poem is very interesting and it tells us the behaviour of the fog- the movement of the fog by using a lot of sibilants, assonance, repetition and personification. |
Analyzing "The Fog"
“The Fog" describes how the fog moves and how the fog behaves in different places like the dark houses and the dark gardens at night. The writer wrote this poem to tell us the movements and behavior of the fog while it is going through streets, houses and gardens. This poetry personifies the fog as a blind man who seeks and searches and shouldered with a grey face, wide arms and finger tips portrays and created a vivid image of how the mysterious and unpredictable fog spreads around different places like a blind man hunting the moon. It uses sibilants “Short Street”, assonance “Out through”, and repetition “seeking, seeking” and “searching, searching”. This poetry has an internal rhyming “houses” and “rosses” too! I feel a sense of awe and sense of colour “grey face” and “ dark gardens and rosses”. This poetry gives readers a feeling of awe and mysterious because of the movements of fog – moving on and on without stopping and without control. It made us wonder where the fog goes whenever it spreads around. Even though this poem uses ordinary everyday word, but it is still interesting and it is meaningful. The poetry has an internal rhyming scheme and the meter in this piece of poetry are similar too. It is a conventional poetry that follows a pattern. This is heptane poetry. This poem also flows while reading because of the rhyming scheme and repetition in the poem. ‘The Fog’ is a really good poem which uses a lot of adjectives and internal rhyming words. |
